It is always the fun part of the day when we move the “red board” farther to the west, giving the big train a longer run. We are now at MP 5.5!

With over 3,000 ties per mile, we have to replace at lest 1,000 per mile to make the track suitable for the big train. It is a lot of work and expense.

And then there are still 2,000 ties per mile that also need work, as we are out in territory that has had no work in this century. We then have to usually go back and replace more of those ties as that track then comes under the regular maintenance program, once it is opened up. Progress seems slow at times, but we want to do a good job and do it right and have a safe and productive railroad.
